Just decided to ring in the new year by creating my own author playground. Took me long enough, but I was not contributing much more than comments about the work by other authors.

Perhaps you will enjoy my first offering, an example of how pig headed young reporters can be.

I took one look at your hat, and decided to support you for a year, or until you place a cowboy hat on your head, Jim.

Lol - thanks for the support, Dennis. I'm still far too Ohio to ever wear a cowboy hat. The fedora and/or porkpie is far more my style!

Great reminder of the digital divide that grows farther and farther away from things we seniors took for granted.

Pay phones? Of course.

Sending and receiving messages via morse code to fellow amateur radio operators thousands of miles away? Before the internet, it was the only free way to communicate across massive distances.

Touch typing on a manual typewriter? Was a common skill back in the day.

Being able to make change for a cash sale?

There are moments in my life as I rapidly approach my eighth decade that so many skills will have been lost, only to be replaced by new skills, such as rapidly using two thumbs to compose text messages on cell phones.

Your story was most enjoyable, Jim. I'm certain I am not the only person who found your story poignant.

May you and yours have a blessed and merry Christmas.

My favorite pay phone was the one in the middle of the Mojave Desert until a few years ago
